An der Etsch (English: On the Adige) was a bailiwick of the Teutonic Order, based in modern Trentino-Alto Adige in Italy. The bailiwick was founded in c. 1260 by invitation of the Bishop of Trent, and quickly gained lands from the restless vassals of the bishops. Their seat was in Bolzano. The Teutonic Order originally held a seat in the Imperial Diet through An der Etsch, but it was eventually lost as the Habsburgs eventually gained dominance over the bailiwick. It was refounded in the 19th Century.
