The Duchy of Friuli was an Imperial Estate of the Holy Roman Empire, located in the modern Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, in the historical region of Friuli. The Duchy was part of the Austrian Circle.
The Duchy was created in 1518 when the Austrians annexed the eastern portion of Friuli, formerly a province of the Republic of Venice. In 1797, the Austrians annexed the remaining half and Udine. It remained part of Austria until 1866 when it was made part of the Kingdom of Italy.
