Mikhail Gorbachev was the last president of the Soviet Union, serving from 1985 to 1991, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for his leadership role in ending the Cold War and promoting peaceful international relations. He introduced few reforms that introduced other parties to the Soviet Union.
Mikhail Gorbachev became a delegate to the Communist Party Congress in 1961. He was elected general secretary in 1985. He became the first president of the Soviet Union in 1990, and won the Nobel Prize for Peace that same year. He resigned in 1991, and later founded the Gorbachev Foundation. He have since have passed away.
