Rupert II (German: Ruprecht II.) (12 May 1325 - 6 January 1398) was the Elector Palatine from 1390 until 1398.
Life[]
Rupert was born in Amberg in 1325 as the eldest son of the Elector Palatine Adolph. After the death of his father, his uncles Rudolph II and Rupert I took up the claims of their branch of the House of Wittelsbach against King Louis IV. In 1338 his uncles began performing as co-Electors until the death of Rudolph II, after which Rupert I acted as sole elector. In 1390 Rupert I died without issue and, with the support of King Wenceslaus, Rupert succeeded him as Elector Palatine. In 1391 he banished Jews and prostitutes from Heidelberg and granted their properties to the University of Heidelberg. He created the so-called Rupertinian Constitution in 1395 which was intended to maintain unity in the Palatine lands, and in the same year annexed the Imperial City of Neckargemünd.
Rupert died in Amberg in 1398 and was buried in the Cisterian Abbey of Schönau.
